Fish Love Women...and hopefully Men too.

fish woman A study has revealed that women whose diet was rich in Omega-3 fatty acids were at drastically lower risk of developing macular degeneration.

In a Harvard Women's Health Study, researchers followed 39, 876 women in midlife since 1993. After 10 years of follow-up, 235 of the women had developed macular degeneration, a progressive eye disease that is the leading cause of vision loss in the elderly. But the women who reported eating one or more servings of fish per week were 42 percent less likely to develop macular degeneration than the women who ate less a serving per month.

According to the study's lead author, Dr. William G. Christen of Harvard Medical School; "We know that inflammatory processes are involved in A.M.D.(age-related macular degeneration), and the omega-3 long-chain fatty acids do have an anti-inflammatory effect."

So which are the best fish to eat? Canned tuna and dark-meat fish such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, bluefish, and swordfish appeared to have the most benefits.
